The Writing Center's goal is to help individual students develop their writing processes and become productive readers of their own texts. Current research in the field of writing supports the premise that professional writers do not work in isolation and that writers benefit from consulting with editors and trained readers. Acting upon this research, the Writing Center offers individual peer tutoring and group writing workshops to all writers -- undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and staff -- on the AASU campus. Experienced student writers and faculty members serve as tutors who are committed to enhancing writers' intellectual growth and critical thinking skills in a manner that does not intrude upon the student/teacher relationship. Providing writers with other pairs of eyes and ears, tutors assist students in clarifying their thoughts and strengthening their voices. Sharing writing with thoughtful readers helps student writers improve their writing abilities, ranging from larger issues such as developing a thesis to smaller ones such as refining mechanics and spelling.
